BIOGRAPHY

Young Belgian conductor, Cyril Englebert studied at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège, where he graduated in piano and conducting. At the same time, he participates in several international conducting competitions and works with renowned conductors such as Yuri Simonov, Sir Neville Marriner, Patrick Davin, Ronald Zollman, Pierre Bartholomée and Georges-Elie Octors.

In November 2010, he was named assistant of the music director, at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège. Since then, several engagements has followed at the head of the orchestra of Liège's opera: he ensured the musical direction of performances hailed by critics such as Offenbach's La Belle Hélène, La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein and Orphée aux Enfers, Puccini's Tosca, L. Adam's Sybil et les Silhouettes, Berthe di Vito-Delvaux's Grétry and Auber's Manon Lescaut.​ These opportunities allowed him to work with renowned artists: Paolo Arrivabeni, Christian Zacharias, Claudio Scimone, Jose Cura, Lionel Lhote, Sumi Jo, Sebastien Droy, Mark Rucker, Daniella Dessi and June Anderson.

Passionate also by symphonic music, he is regularly invited by the Hulencourt Soloist Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège.

At the Opéra-Théâtre de Metz, Cyril Engleber has conducted Donizetti's Don Pasquale and took over at a moment's notice the musical direction of Benatsky's L'Auberge du Cheval Blanc. Since then, he was invited back to ensure the openings of 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons with Gounod's Faust and Verdi's Rigoletto.

Regularly invited by the Opéra de Reims, Englebert has already conducted operas such as Benatsky's L'Auberge du Cheval Blanc, Gounod's Faust and Verdi's Rigoletto.
In 2020, he conducted his first ballet, Indicible Beethoven, in collaboration with the Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg and the Ballet de l'Opéra-Théâtre de Metz, around Beethoven's music for quartet, arranged for string orchestra by Englebert himself and choreographed by Gil Schamber.
During the 2021-22 season, he has conducted the Reims opera orchestra in Bizet's Carmen. He also ensured the French creation of Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Aucassin et Nicolette. In the 2022-23 season, Cyril conducted Verdi's La Traviata, at the Opéra Clermont Auvergne and Opéra de Reims, and he made his debut at the Opéra de Toulon, conducting the music of the movie Le Cirque, from Charlie Chaplin.

Among his next engagements, Englebert will conduct Bizet's Carmen at the Opéra Clermont Auvergne and Dvorak's Rusalka, at the Opéra de Reims, among others.
