BIOGRAPHY
Federico Tibone is an Italian conductor, pianist and vocal coach. Chosen by Lawrence Foster in 2022, he is currently associate conductor at the Opéra de Marseille and Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille (Michele Spotti, music director), and associate professor of the Conducting Department at the Conservatoire de Lille.
Federico is originally from Turin, where he studied piano with Vera Drenkova. After graduating the Conservatory, he collaborated with Teatro Regio di Torino as a vocal coach for many productions such as La Bohème, La Traviata, Norma and Il Barbiere di Siviglia.
In 2015, he moves to Paris, where he studies conducting with Nicolas Brochot and becomes a member of the Académie de l’Opéra National de Paris as a vocal coach, where he would take part in productions as La Traviata, Tosca, Die Lustige Witwe, Iphigénie en Tauride and Orfeo.
He conducted Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly in Orvieto (2017 and 2020), Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera at the Abay National Opera (Kazakhstan, 2018), and Offenbach’s La Périchole in Paris (2021). In 2024, he debuted at the Opéra de Marseille, conducting Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and at the Théâtre de l’Odéon, the Marseille’s operette house, with Paganini by Franz Léhar.
His collaborations with conductors and singers include artists such as Lawrence Foster, Bertrand de Billy, Dan Ettinger, Paolo Arrivabeni, Michele Spotti, Frédéric Chaslin, José van Dam, Sophie Koch, Thomas Hampson, Véronique Gens, Anja Harteros and Ramon Vargas.
Federico won the Second Prize at the 26th edition of “Premio Venezia” piano competition (Teatro La Fenice, 2009), the Second Prize at the 8th International Competition for Opera Conductors “L. Mancinelli” (Orvieto, Italy, 2018) and was a finalist of the 56th and 57th editions of the prestigious Besançon Competition for Young Conductors (2019, 2021).
Highlights of F. Tibone’s 2024-25 season include his house debut at the Opéra de Québec, with Verdi’s masterpiece Il Trovatore; a new ballet’s production of Opéra de Marseille, with the Ballet National de Marseille (Age of Content, choreographer La Horde); two symphonic concerts at Marseille’s Opera and pedagogical performances with the Orchestre Philarmonique de Marseille.
In March 2025, a song album recorded with the mezzo-soprano Anne-Lise Polchlopek and the guitarist Pierre Laniau will be released by Outhere Music.
Particularly interested and involved in transmission, Federico is conductor of Demos Marseille, a project by Philarmonie de Paris.
