BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1987, in Tbilisi, Georgia, Giorgi Chelidze is graduated from the Tbilisi State Conservatory, in 2016 with a master’s degree in Vocal Performance.

While being a student at the Conservatory, Giorgi participated in the BYULBYUL International Vocal Competition (Baku, Azerbaijan) winning the 1st prize. He was also awarded of the 1st prize at the International Vocal Competition “Giovanni Martinelli-Aureliano Pertile” (Montanana, Italy) and the 2nd prize at the International Competition “Citta di Crispiano’’ (Crispiano, Italy). 

Chelidze was a member of the Young Artist Program of the Bolshoi Theatre, where he continues his vocal studies with the Head of the Program Prof. Dmitry Vdovin and other prominent coaches such as Makvala Kasrashvili and Svetlana Nesterenko.

During his time in the program, he has performed in numerous chamber music concerts with Ivari Ilja, Liubov Orfeonova, Semyon Skigin, Alexandra Goloubitskaia. He also attended various master classes with Eva Marton, Elizabeth Vidal, John Fisher, Giacomo Sagripanti, Diane Zola, Evamaria Wieser, Sebastian F. Schwarz.

Giorgi made his debut at the Tbilisi State Opera & Ballet Theatre singing the role of Dulcamara in Donizetti’s L'Elisir d'Amore. Later, he performed many roles in the same house, such as Timur in Puccini’s Turandot and Angelotti in Tosca, Leone in Verdi’s Attila, Frate in Verdi’s Don Carlo and Pietro in Simon Boccanegra, King Abio in Z. Paliashvili’s Abesalom and Eteri, Makar in V. Dolidze’s Keto and Kote and Zuniga in Bizet’s Carmen.

In 2018, he sang Colline in Puccini’s La Boheme, at the Amman Opera Festival (Jordan), and Sparafucile in Verdi’s Rigoletto, in Chengdu (China). He also participated in a concert at the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden. 

In 2019, in Kazan, Russia, Giorgi sang the Shostakovich’s 14th Symphony, being conducted by Alexsander Sladkovsky.

In the season 2021/22 at the Tbilisi State Opera, Chelidze performed the roles of Marchese di Calatrava in Verdi’s La Forza del Destino, Marchese d’Obigny in La Traviata, Zaccaria in Verdi’s Nabucco (also at the Opéra de Massy) and Geronte di Ravoir in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut.

The season 2022/23 started with Zuniga in Carmen and Colline in La Bohème, both in Tbilisi. In February, he will sing Sparafucile in Rigoletto, also in Tbilisi. In April, he will make his house debut at the Teatro Regio di Torino, as Malyuta Skuratov in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride.
