BIOGRAPHY
Makvala Aspanidze’s first operatic role was Zemfira in Sergei Rachmaninov’s Aleko. She performed it when she was still a student of the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, in 2002. During the next two years she gave recitals at the Recital Hall of the Conservatoire, singing arias from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Italian composers’ operas.
Since 2004, she has been a soloist of the Tbilisi Zakaria Paliashvili State Opera and Ballet Theatre. Her vast repertoire includes the title role in Verdi’s Aida, Abigaille in Nabucco, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, Violetta in La Traviata, Leonora in La Forza del Destino, Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera, Odabella in Attila, Elisabetta di Valois in Don Carlo; Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni; also title roles in Puccini’s Turandot, Tosca, Manon Lescaut and Madama Butterfly; Eteri in Paliashvili’s Abesalom and Eteri, Shushanik in Bidzina Kvernadze’s And it was in the Eighth Year, Mzia in Otar Taktakishvili’s Mindia, Nedda in Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, etc.
Apart of that, Makvala Aspanidze often appears in Opera Galas and performances abroad. Together with the Tbilisi State Opera Troupe she sang at the Opera Galas in Astana Theatre (Kazakhstan); the 6th International Festival “Et Vogue L’Opera” (Croatia); Maalot, Raanana (Israel); and in numerous charity and anniversary concerts in Tbilisi.
The Georgian soprano has performed in opera houses and festivals such as Opéra Royal de Wallonie Liège, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Bolshoi Opera, Dubrovnik Palace (Croatia) and Jerusalem Opera, among others. In 2018, she performed at the Festival Puccini Torre del Lago, as Turandot and Tosca.
Makvala Aspanidze has collaborated with important singers, directors and conductors such as Ruggero Raimondi, Paata Burchuladze, Lado Ataneli, Badri Maisuradze, Maria Guleghina, Michele Pertusi, Giovanni Meoni, Giuseppe Gipali, Marco Berti, Piero Giuliacci, Anita Rachvelishvili, Riccardo Massi, Francisco Negrin, Luis Desire, Nigel Smith, Gianluca Marciano, Paolo Arrivabeni, Antonello Alleemandi, Renato Palumbo, Daniele Agimant, Julian Gallant, Davit Kintsurashvili, Zaza Azmaipashvili, Giorgi Zhordania, Revaz Takidze, Gogi Tchitchinadze, Tamaz Japaridze, Nikoloz Rachveli, Davit Mukeria, Zaza Kalmakhelidze, Ilia Inaishvili, Revaz Javakhishvili and more.
