MARIE KARALL

BIOGRAPHY
Trained at Conservatory of her hometown Strasbourg, Conservatory of the IXth Arrondissement in Paris, École Normale de Musique and Opera Studio of Rome, Marie Karall won several distinctions and first prizes in singing competitions, notably at 20th Clermont-Ferrand Competition (with a jury presided by Teresa Berganza), Centre Français de Promotion Lyrique Competition, 15th Picardie Competition (presided over by Viorica Cortez) and New York International Opera Auditions.
From 2012 to 2013, she was a member of the troupe l'EnVOL, at the Opéra de Lausanne. She also holds degrees in literature and law. Her career has taken her mainly to the French opera houses, such as Lyon, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lille, Avignon, Rouen, Toulon, Saint-Etienne, Orange and Paris (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées), but also to Portugal, Spain (Tenerife), Hong Kong, Latvia, Romania, Switzerland, and Germany.
Among the roles she has interpreted are Federica in Verdi's Luisa Miller and Public Opinion in Offenbach's Orphée aux Enfers, at the Opéra de Lausanne; Mallika in Lakmé, at the Opéra National de Montpellier; Zefka in Le Journal d'un Disparu, at the Opéra de Lille; La Mère in Ravel's L'Enfant et les Sortilèges, at the Liederhalle of Stuttgart (a disc of this production, directed by Stéphane Denève, is available by he label SWR music); Catherine in Honegger's Jeanne d’Arc au Bûcher, at Opéra National de Lyon and in Bucharest, at the Enescu Festival, with Marion Cotillard; Fenena in Nabucco and Dalila in Saint-Saëns' Samson et Dalila, at the Avenches Arena. In concert, she has performed Verdi arias at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Festival de Chorégies d'Orange (for the TV show Musiques en Fête) and at Aspendos in Turkey (with José Cura).
More recently, Marie Karall has performed the title role in Carmen, at Latvian National Opera and Hong Kong Opera (2018), and at the Theater Winterthur (2020); the title role in Offenbach's La Périchole, at the Opéra Grand Avignon (2019); and Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, at the Opéra National du Rhin (2021). In concert versions, Marie Karall sang César Franck‘s Hulda, as Hulda’s mother, with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège (May 2022), as well Fenena in Nabucco, at the Musikverein Graz, where she made her Austrian debut, alongside Plácido Domingo. She also took part of the recording of a disc in the Abbaye de Royaumont, with Michel Piquemal, to be released soon.
Marie Karall's future engagements includes a recital at the Salle Gaveau and solo parts with the Choeur Vittoria, both in Paris, and a return to Opéra de Nice Côte d'Azur and Opéra de Lausanne.
