One of the most charismatic tenors of his generation, Matteo Falcier graduated in singing with highest honours at Conservatory G. Verdi in Milano, then he attended the “Accademia della Scala” for leading singers and the improvers vocal course at Accademia “Rodolfo Celletti” in Martina Franca (TA). He is currently studying with the international soprano Francesca Patanè. He debuted in 2010, in Cimarosa’s Il Matrimonio Segreto playing Paolino, at Stresa Festival and Teatro Regio di Torino. He has already performed in some among the major theatres, working with such conductors as R. Muti, J. Conlon, R. Abbado, D. Rustioni, C. Goldstein, G. Bisanti, R. Boer, F.M. Carminati and P. Rizzo and directors such as C. Mazzavillani in Muti, L. Muscato, D. Michieletto, T. Gilliam, G. Strehler, J. P. Ponnelle and F. Ozpetek.
In 2016, he debuted the roles of Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Bohème (Circuito Lombardo), Rinuccio in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi (Teatro dell’Opera di Roma), Fenton in the Verdi’s Falstaff (Luglio Musicale Trapanese) and Don Basilio in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro in the Japanese tour of the Wiener Staatsoper, conducted by M. Riccardo Muti. In 2017, he successfully played the roles of Tebaldo in Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Teatro Filarmonico di Verona) and Alfredo in Verdi’s La Traviata, at the prestigious Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli, directed by Ferzan Ozpetek. Then he took part in the opera in concert Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, at the New Zealand Opera, featuring the international Soprano Serena Farnocchia leading the title role. In this same year, he performed Alfredo with major success in the Japanese tour of La Traviata, with the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and the role of Duca di Mantova in Verdi’s Rigoletto, at the Circuito Lombardo.
In 2018, he performed the role of Beppe in Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, alongside Fabio Sartori and Carmela Remigio, being conducted by Carlo Rizzi. Matteo Falcier sang again the role of Paolino in Il Matrimonio Segreto, at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège and debuted the role of Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, at the Opéra de Nice. In 2019, he debuted as Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale (Teatro Filarmonico di Verona), Spiridione in Donizetti’s Il Campanello dello Speziale (Teatro Lirico di Cagliari) and Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, at the Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy, being conducted by Riccardo Muti.
In the season 2019/2020, Falcier sang the role of Arnoldo in Donizetti’s Guglielmo Tell, at Circuito Lombardo and Teatro Verdi di Pisa; Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto, at the Jerusalem Opera; and Beppe in I Pagliacci, at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari. On the summer of 2020, he inaugurated the summer festival of the Teatro Grande di Brescia, singing Alfredo in La Traviata, and sang Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana, by the Italian Opera Academy, under the baton of Riccardo Muti.
In 2021, he was the tenor in Ponchielli's Op 20, concerted by Jacopo Brusa, for the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, and debuted at the legendary Teatro alla Scala, as Don Basilio in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, under the guidance of Daniel Harding and directed by Giorgio Strehler. In 2022, Matteo sang the roles of Manrico in Il Trovatore (Teatro Sociale di Como, Teatro Ponchielli di Cremona, Teatro Fraschini di Pavia and Teatro Grande di Brescia), Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto (Teatro Carlo Felice and Teatro Redano di Cosenza), Florindo in Mascagni’s Le Maschere (Festival Illica Castell’Arquato) and Alfredo in La Traviata (Teatro Comunale di Bologna).
Among his next engagements, Matteo Falcier will come back to the Scala as Don Basilio, will sing Alfred in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, at Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Teatro Carlo Felice, and will sing again Beppe in I Pagliacci, being conducted by Daniel Oren.
