BIOGRAPHY

The Slovenian soprano holds two Master degrees: the first one in Musical Arts – Singing summa cum laude at the Ljubljana Music Academy (Prof. Barbara Jernejčič Fürst), in Slovenia, and the second in Singing at the Zagreb Music Academy (Prof. Vlatka Oršanić), in Croatia. She attended masterclasses with Helena Lazarska, KS Brigitte Fassbaender, KS Edda Moser and Vlatka Oršanić. She has also graduated at the Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine.

She won several prizes at international singing competitions including: 1st Prize at the  Lav Mirski International Competition, in Osijek, Croatia; 2nd Prize and Audience award at the Zinka Milanov International Competition 2016, in Rijeka, Croatia; 2nd Prize at the Ada Sari International Competition 2017, in Nowy Sacz, Poland; 3rd Prize at the International Mozart Competition 2018, in Salzburg, Austria; 2nd Prize, Audience award, a special prize for the best soprano finalist in memory of Dame Joan Sutherland and the Karl Böhm special prize for the best interpretation of part of Mozart at the International Competition Ferruccio Tagliavini 2019, in Deutschlandsberg, Austria.

Her opera debut was at the Slovenian National Opera-Ljubljana, as Euridice in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice. At the SNO-Maribor, Mojca Bitenc sang Liu in Puccini's Turandot. In the festival Zomeropera Alden Biesen, in Belgium, she sang Tatyana (Eugene Onegin). After her great success as Contessa Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, at the Bregenz Festival 2017, the festival invited her again, in 2018, to perform as Micaëla, and subsenquently, singing the Dvorak’s Te Deum, with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada.

 

Mojca Bitenc is regularly invited at the SNO-Ljubljana, performing as Donna Anna, Marguerite in Gounod's Faust, Tatyana in Eugene Onegin, the title role in the Slovenian opera Ksenija from V. Parma, Antonia in Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Violetta Valery in La Traviata, Mařenka in B. Smetana's Prodaná Nevěsta and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte.

During the season 2020/21, Mojca Bitenc made her debut at the Staatsoper Hamburg as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Micaëla (Carmen), sang Nedda in Leoncavallo's I Pagliacci at the Slovenian National Opera-Ljubljana and debuted as Suzel in Mascagni's L Amico Fritz at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl. Her concert appearances include Mahler's 2nd Symphony.

​The Slovenian soprano has already performed with many orchestras, such as Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Ljubljana Opera Orchestra, Budapest Opera Orchestra, RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, among other.
