BIOGRAPHY
Turkish baritone Önay Köse is developing a new vocal road, singing important roles of Verdian, French and German repertoire, after a successful career as bass. His recent success as Miller in Verdi’s Luisa Miller has prepared him for new challenges: his future engagements include the title role in Verdi's Rigoletto and Zurga in Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles.
In the season 2026-26, He will perform the title role in Rigoletto at the Opéra d'Avignon and Zurga in Bizet's Les pêcheurs de perles at the Philharmonie de Paris.
In the 2024/25 season, Önay Köse sang Miller in Luisa Miller, a new production of Theater Osnabrück; Bluebeard in Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle, at the Opéra de Dijon; and he returned to Toulon, as Oroveso in Bellini’s Norma.
Highlights of Önay Köse’s 2023/24 season include Ramfis in Verdi’s Aida, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Oroveso at the Opéra National du Rhin and with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra and Lorenzo in Bellini’s I Capuleti e I Montecchi, at the Opéra de Toulon.
Önay has already collaborated with important opera houses and stages such as Canadian Opera Company, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Carnegie Hall, Oper Frankfurt, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Oper Köln, Komische Oper Berlin, Opéra de Dijon, Opéra National du Rhin Strasbourg, Teatre Principal de Palma Mallorca, Opéra de Toulon, Opéra National de Lorraine- Nancy, Tulsa Opera, Teatro Municipal de Santiago and Grand-Théâtre de Luxembourg.
He has also recorded with Deutsche Grammophon.
